When “Lenny” was referred to Select Specialty Hospital, we were apprehensive. Many doctors have described him as a “complicated” case so we were very hesitant. I visited the facility and was greeted by a friendly charge nurse and equally welcoming staff. With Lenny’s many medical complications, we recognized a few familiar faces from other medical facilities and realized that Select Specialty is very “selective” in recruiting and choosing their employees. The staff is very responsive and pleasant in dealing with both patients and families. We’ve had good and bad experiences in the hospitals Lenny has “frequented.” His previous rehab experience was the worst leaving him with additional recovery time making us leery of any changes. “Select” is a specialty facility staffed twenty-four hours a day with knowledgeable staff. During the week Therapists and a Wound Care Nurse work with the patients on an individually, customized program. The administrative staff is also readily available to address any concerns. Each staff member has a comprehensive knowledge of their patient’s condition. Our concerns and questions have been promptly addressed. Any facility that can handle one patient with cardiac issues, diabetes, on dialysis, history of serious infections, low blood pressure, and a recent limb amputation, while staying on top of specialized rehabilitation and frequent IV antibiotics, is seriously one that can handle difficult rehabilitation issues. The extent of knowledge and willingness to cooperative with personal physicians and work with each family and patient on an individual level is remarkable. We highly recommend Select Specialty Hospital.
