I have stayed at the Gateway Lodge several times during different seasons, including the lodge itself and the cabins. I LOVE the Gateway Lodge. It is absolutely cozy and comfortable with kind staff and a great restaurant.
Personally, I find the cabins to be the best option because of the privacy and the option to make a campfire.
The food is excellent - breakfasts are provided with a couple of options for meals. Dinner options have been consistently delicious and often feature locally sourced food.
Staff at the Gateway Lodge have always been friendly and helpful.
I am not sure why some of the negative reviews had appeared. Some seem uninformed - for example, criticizing the "lack of options" on a menu for an event that advertised its fixed menu of local foods is not a valid criticism.
I have not yet taken advantage of the spa.
I highly recommend the Gateway Lodge to anyone looking for a romantic getaway or a fun family outing (in that second case, get a cabin). Clear Creek and Cook Forest State Parks provide excellent outdoor activity opportunities.
