The Gardens at Lititz, what an unfortunate location for such a horrible facility. Some regular staff turnover is an unfortunate reality at most nursing homes, However,if you notice that your loved one's nursing home constantly is training new staff to the point that no one on the staff knows the person they are required to take care of, it is time to look for a new nursing home. Consistent staff-resident pairing is important in the quality of care of a loved one in a nursing home. It is unfortunate that the staff is so inconsistent in more ways than one. They do not communicate well and do not document every detail for the quality of your loved one's care. At meal time, they take the residents trays into their BEDROOMS and literally expect them to eat by themselves which not all residents are capable of doing so! Its also sad to see all of the nurses hanging out at the front desk talking and eating among themselves, not wanting to be bothered by the residents. They roll their eyes, have bad attitudes, are never smiling and they project the discomfort residents feel as if they are bothering the nurses. It is incredibly sad to watch. They bring residents out to their front desk and sit them in wheel chairs and do not talk to them. The reason they do this is because they do not want to be bothered by being social with them or going into their rooms. If the resident does not eat or like the food that is made the nurses send them to bed with ensure or pedialite. Now I hope none of your loved ones are diabetic because if they are sleeping when their trays come to their rooms or they're not hungry at the moment the nurses do not care. They also use alarms on the patients who are not "allowed" to stand or walk around, which by the way is illegal because it is considered "restraint". The facility is very dirty. If a patient has a bathroom "accident" in their clothing they leave the soiled laundry in a laundry basket until laundry day. I do not mean urine, I mean feces. That is so uncleanly and unhealthy and a complete health hazard against OSHA regulations. If they are caught doing something illegal or incorrect, they lie to Office of the Aging and other organizations that are put in place to HELP American citizens that the family of the resident is unfit and they are better for their needs. I have witnessed nurses tell residents that they cannot go to the bathroom and have to wait their turn, so then the resident feels even more helpless and as if they are a nuisance. For the residents that are considered needy and require more attention, they will give the perception that the resident is unstable and needs to be medicated. When I say medicated, they have doctors prescribe anti-depressants and anti-psychotics 4 times a day in an 8 hour period so that the resident is now a "zombie" and a warm body they can control. There have been traveling nurses that come in and witnessed that there are medications and instructions for administering the medications incorrectly or not labeled in their charts at all, and have had to call their doctors to make verify medications. When your loved ones have to go to a facility, you are having faith in that facility to care for those you love, you are trusting them in a time that is not easy to deal with. No one wants to see their loved ones suffer especially after they have lived such a life. My grandfather who is a veteran of the United States, decorated with bronze stars and purple hearts, who fought for his country, who put his life on the line for these inconsiderate, unsympathetic, callous, and rude care givers, for what? To be treated like dirt. These are scary times, scary times that caregivers cannot even be trusted with those who lived for them. If I am being frank, this is is sadly where you send your loved ones to die. I wouldn't trust this home with my family pet. Please do not send your loved ones here, it will be heartache watching the decline in health and the poor treatment and being unable to do anything.
